Philosophy of Mind

Philosophy of mind is the investigation of the cognitive requirements and conceptual space of the notion of mind, so as to come to understanding regarding the nature and implications of mind and its existence. Given more specificity, philosophy of mind tries to deal with the implications mind may have on notions and theories of general substance given its seeming or apparent lack of material properties. Hence, it must confront explanatory problems for the origin of mind or consciousness insofar as their conditions of possibility. It must also confront what the exact relationship or connection is between mind and the body, given the observed correlation between mental states and acts and bodily states and acts. Further, it must clarify what mental states are and how they are such that they manifest in those sorts of correlations.
